In the same year L. Frank Baum published The Wizard of Oz, he inspired retailers with the release of his other book, The Art of Decorating Dry Goods Windows and Interiors.

Here, Baum described the peculiar character of store windows as "specialized in their way as the stained glass windows of a cathedral, unusual and distinctive". The dresser, he says, must have both the talent “for letting objects tell some legible story” and the knack for “inducing trade”.

With several of the Mall's shop window spaces as his canvas, Leumeah-based artist Adam Dunn brings to the Festival a unique telling of the Oz story. Visitors are truly in for a visual treat as they follow a yellow brick road through Campbelltown's shopping paradise.

ADAM (SWARMY) DUNN has been involved with hip hop music and aerosol art in Sydney for over ten years, touring Australian stages and exhibiting works in the Sydney Festival, Plump Gallery Enmore and Eat Art Truck. For the past 2 years Adam has applied his skills to work with young people in Western Sydney using aerosol art to engage youth and foster relationships between at risk youth and community services as well as providing a fun and legal outlet for their creativity.

Trading under the name Big Shot Graffix, Adam has applied the lessons learned from aerosol art and applied them to digital technology as a graphic designer and videographer. Even running corporate team building activities where businesses reflect on relevant themes and work together to create a visual representation through aerosol art. Big Shot Graffix continues to grow as an all round provider of creative solutions on screen and on canvas and is very proud to be partnered with The Wizard of Oz Festival to bring a vibrant event to its home town.

As part of The Wizard of Oz Festival, Adam is also conducting a workshop in Spray Can Art for young people on Sat 4th August. Moreā€¦

Oz-some fact: The Show Window: A Journal of Practical Window Trimming for the Merchant and the Professional was the monthly trade journal started by L. Frank Baum in 1897. It was the first periodical devoted to its subject to appear in the United States.
